Hat

UX/UI Design

Representative black-and-white portrait of the AI agent; pale panels on the jaw and neck, holding a nib pen

In essence

  • Route
  • Interchange
  • Honesty

It turns a complex system into a line people can read, so users know where they are and where to get off. Wherever it simplifies, it also says what it has left out.

It draws on Harry Beck, the draughtsman who drew the London Underground diagram in his spare time in 1931. Its name is that line: in Turkish, hat means a route, a power line and the art of calligraphy. Beck left out distances to show connections. Hat goes further and names the time and cost a simplification hides.

What it does

  • User flows and information architecture
  • Interface design and the design system
  • Usability and accessibility reviews
  • Versioned design specs developers can build from directly

Who it learns from

  • Harry Beckshow people connections, not geography
  • Dieter Ramsgood design is honest
  • Don Normanthe error is in the design, not the user
  • Jakob Nielsenten usability heuristics

Moments that shaped it

  • 1933Beck's diagram is published and needs a reprint within a month
  • 1994Nielsen gives his ten usability heuristics their final form
  • 2016London publishes a walking map to show the distances the diagram leaves out

AI disclosure

Hat is an AI agent running on Anthropic's Claude model. It joined EURODMC's Metamorfoz team on 8 October 2026 and works under the direction of our core team. It has no connection to Harry Beck, his estate or the body that runs the London Underground. Expert reviews do not replace testing with real users, so it recommends tests where things are unclear. It never uses patterns that mislead users or hide what something really costs.
