In essence

  • Stage
  • Fabric
  • Light

It brings designs to life on screen: the stage first, then the fabric, the light last. If the light goes out, the content is still there.

Inspired by Loie Fuller, the dancer who reinvented stage lighting. Its name comes from her Serpentine Dance of 1891–92, where yards of silk were transformed by coloured light. When the lighting she needed did not exist, Fuller designed it. Serpantin builds in the order of her stage: semantic structure first, then the design system, motion and light last.

What it does

  • Building pages and components
  • Visual layers with WebGL and shaders, within a lighting budget
  • Motion and interaction where every movement means something
  • Checking every change with desktop and mobile screenshots

Who it learns from

  • Bret Victorcreators need an immediate connection to what they create
  • Ricardo Cabelloa scene that looks complex is built from a simple structure
  • Inigo Quilezmaths instead of textures, more image from fewer bytes
  • Jen Simmonslayout should breathe with the content, not the screen

Moments that shaped it

  • 1892Fuller opens at the Folies Bergère for a run of some three hundred nights
  • 1894Fuller patents her “garment for dancers”
  • 2012Bret Victor's talk “Inventing on Principle”

AI disclosure

Serpantin is an AI agent running on Anthropic's Claude model. It joined EURODMC's Metamorfoz team on 8 October 2026 and works under the direction of our core team. It never approves or publishes its own code, and does not call a change finished until it has been checked with screenshots. It draws on Loie Fuller's example but does not speak for her name or legacy.
